  • Jeff H.

    Co-Owner/General Manager

Jeff was born and raised in Washington state and moved to Bozeman in 2000 to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. After graduating, his passion for climbing and problem solving drew him to work at Spire between jobs. In 2006 Jeff became an owner of Spire and hasn’t looked back since.

When not at the gym, Jeff spends most of his time gardening, climbing outdoors, spending time with his family, and running with his dog Indie.

  • Charlie F.

Operations Manager - Employee since 2018

Charlie grew up in Wisconsin where he was fortunate enough to have a climbing team at his high school. After competing for a year, he got a job working at the climbing gym at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and guided weekend climbing trips to Devil’s Lake. After realizing his love for climbing and slacklining couldn’t be satiated by the small crags in the flat-lands of the Midwest, he decided to move to Colorado. There, he spent as much time as possible honing his skills in the mountains. Charlie moved to Bozeman in 2016 to explore new mountain ranges and meet new people. He spends his free time roaming the GYE with his wife, friends, and dog, Nandi.

Favorite climbs:Grand Traverse [Tetons], Cirque Traverse [Wind River Range], Mount Cowen NE Arete [Absarokas]

  • Kim L.

Program Manager - Employee since 2015

Born and raised in Billings, Montana, Kim grew up loving snow, rock, and anything outdoors. She learned to ski and backpack as soon as she could walk but didn’t find rock climbing until college. Sitting in freshman orientation, she signed up for “Rock Climbing 101” just for fun. She fell in love and went on to work at SteepWorld in Billings and spend countless hours on the sandstone bluffs surrounding the city. Coming to Bozeman in 2015 for the outdoor recreation that it provides, she now is stoked to keep exploring the local crags and play on some ice this winter.

Favorite Climbs: I'll Tell You What's Cool (Cody, WY), Brown Sugar (Billings, MT), Beer Bong (Ten Sleep, WY), anything that takes you high up in da mountains

  • Ian S.

Membership Manager - Employee since 2021

Ian grew up in Cleveland, Ohio (yes Ohio is real and yes Ian is as weird as you think he is) spending most of his free time hunting, fishing or just as outside as one could get in the city. He moved to Bozeman in 2018 to study at MSU and found climbing through the campus gym. After the great roof collapse of 2019, Ian started coming to Spire more and his love for climbing has only increased since then. Nowadays you can find Ian somewhere at Spire pretty much any weekday and roaming around any area with cool rock formations on the weekends. (Don’t look for him tho)

Favorite Climbs: Flake Fest Direct, Shaken not Stirred, Ghost in a Shell, Will the Wolf Survive, Uber A$$ and anything else at the Fins.

I ended up in Bozeman right after graduating from Washington State University with a degree in Sport and Recreation Management. Chasing the mountain culture I fell in love with growing up in Seattle and in Mazama, Washington. I seriously started climbing my sophmore year of college and haven't looked back. Besides climbing in Bozeman you will find me skiing, trail running, and biking around the Bridgers and beyond. I am personally very passionate about gear and all that goes into the production of it so if you ever have questions let me know!

  • Nick W.

Head Route Setter, Head Comp Team Coach - Employee since 2014

If it wasn't the whiskey, then it sure was that sweet southern sandstone that made this wayward Kentuckian fall in love with rock climbing. For 20 years, rock climbing has been a significant part of his life whether it's climbing outside or grabbing plastic. Eventually, he learned that he could put that plastic wherever his heart desired, and thus began his journey as a setter. While he loves climbing on steep walls, he also have a deep respect for the less than vertical.

  • RC B.

Customer Specialist, Facilites Manager, Route Setter, BCT Coach - Employee since 2024

RC grew up on the front range of Colorado. His father is an avid climber and showed him the ropes at a young age, however, RC only became obsessed after Covid allowed him more time to get outside on rock. After spending all of his free time sitting in Denver traffic to get to the crag or go skiing, he decided to move to Montana for school and solitude. Having since graduated, RC couldn’t bear to leave and decided to work at his favorite place in Bozeman! When RC is not at the front desk you can find him exploring Montana for the best limestone, punting off projects in the Gallatin, or working on his home climbing wall.

Favorite areas: Ten Sleep Canyon (WY), Arco (Italy), Gallatin Canyon, Turkey rocks (CO), Lander (WY)

Favorite climb: The house traverse (ask him about it)

  • Nico H.

Yoga and Fitness Manager - Employee since 2023

Nico is from Golden, Colorado and moved to Bozeman in 2020 after trying to move to India but then getting kicked out due to COVID. She started climbing in college and found that yoga and climbing pair well together through practicing balance, strength, flexibility and breathwork. Outside of Spire, you can find Nico dancing at the studio with Raison D'etre Dance Project or playing in the mountains with her dog Aloo.

Favorite climbs - Casual Route (RMNP), Jupiter Crack (Indian Creek), Stalaktosaurus (Antalya, Turkey)

  • Kenna

    Customer Specialist, Route Setter -

Raised in Whitefish and moved to Bozeman on a whim. I work the desk and route set weekly. If I ain’t at work, I’m rockhounding, climbing/wandering outside, or playing pool.

Favorite Spot: Point of Rocks outside of Whitefish

  • Hannah Z. aka Zylly

Customer Specialist - Employee since 2023

Michigan born and raised, Zylly started consistently climbing while in college. With her university's climbing club she got to climb in several other states (as Michigan has very limited options), but her favorite outdoor sport climbing was in Arkansas. Zylly grew up appreciating all seasons of nature and if you ask to watch the sunset, the answer will always be yes (most likely will suggest running up a hill to get a better view). Between rock climbing, ice skating, skiing, and hiking, any spontaneous adventure sounds like a good idea if it means getting outside. If she's behind the desk you may catch her telling punny dad jokes or dancing to the music.

I grew up in Tennessee and came to Bozeman for school, currently studying Geology and GIS! I love rocks and earth science and I hope to contribute to the climate with my degree.

I started sport climbing in TN and fell in love with it. Since moving to Montana I’ve dabbled in trad, multi pitch, and ice climbing, all which have taken me to some pretty cool spots with pretty cool people! Sandstone sport will always have a special place in my heart.

If I’m not climbing I like to do art, grav bike, ski, yoooga, and read! Also love camping, concerts, laying on sunny rocks, and swimming in alpine lakes.

I grew up in Michigan and moved to Bozeman about a year ago for school. I started climbing on the small cliffs of Northern Michigan, but really fell in love with it after traveling down south to RRG and HCR, along with a summer in Yosemite Valley. When I’m not climbing, I like to read, ski, camp, and just be outside!

  • Brandon H.

    Customer Service

I ended up in Bozeman because I wanted to live somewhere peaceful with mountains after growing up in San Diego. I started working at Spire because of the rad community and the super high stoke levels. When I’m not climbing or working, I like to bake, crochet, work on cars, and hang out with my dog Freya.

Fav Climbing Spots: Indian Creek and the High Sierra.

Fun Fact: I once housed 3 burritos in one sitting.
